SOME HANDSET ERROR MESSAGES, CAUSES AND RESOLUTIONS (MTN)


*       SIM Card out of SMS Memory
v  It is peculiar to some Samsung devices. It is a result of low SMS storage capacity. It means no more space for new message.
ü  Delete some SMS stored in the phone.

*       Check Operator Service (While calling)
v  It is peculiar to some Nokia handsets. It means the phone is on Line 2
ü  Go to menu
ü  Go to settings
ü  Go to Call settings
ü  Phone line in use
ü  Select 1 and Press Ok.


*       Check Operator Service (SMS Related)
v  Usually Nokia related. It means either that Message Center Number (MCN) is not correct or SMS barring is active
ü  Type in the correct MSG no e.g +234803000000 for MTN NG


*       Not Allowed
v  This is an error message that can be related to Nokia and Motorola handsets. This arises when FIXED Dialing or FDN Mode of handset is activated.
ü  Nokia: Menu --- Settings --- Security Settings --- Fixed Dialing --- Pin 2 Code --- Ok
ü  Motorola: Menu --- Phone book --- Fixed Dialing --- Set-up --- Fixed Dialing --- Pin 2 Code --- Select Off --- Ok
ü  Samsung: Menu--- Settings --- Call Settings --- Fixed Dialing Numbers --- Change PIN2 --- Ok

*       SIM Card Memory not found
v  Fixed dialing active on a Nokia phone.
ü  NOKIA: Menu --- Settings --- Security Settings --- Fixed Dialing --- Pin 2 Code --- Ok

*       Calling Refused
v  Fixed dialing active on a Samsung phone.
ü  Menu --- Settings --- Security settings --- FDN mode --- Disable --- Enter Pin 2 --- Ok

*       Call Restricted
v  Fixed dialing active on Motorola phone
ü  Menu --- Phone book --- Fixed Dialing --- Set-up --- Fixed Dialing --- Pin 2 Code --- Select Off --- Ok

*       Not Subscribed
v  Line 2 issue on Motorola handset
ü  To restore back to Line 1 follow the direction below
Menu --- Phone Set-Up --- Select Phone Line --- Select 1 --- Press Ok

*       Wrong Closed User Group
v  This is a service on Samsung
ü  When such error message is displayed; go to security setting, under Closed User Group or CUG and set it as “DEFAULT”.

*       System Failure, Contact Provider
v  Associated with Samsung. It means the phone is faulty or corrupted.
ü  Take to GSM Engineer.

*       Number not in Use
v  Associated to Nokia phone. MCN is not correct or is missing totally.
ü  Provide customer with the correct MCN with the direction on how to get to where it is on the handset.

*       SIM card not Ready
v  This error message is displayed when user tries to access the phone book, call lists or other details stored on the phone immediately after switching on a phone.
ü  Give the phone time to update the stored data.

*       Emergency calls only
v  This is when there is no network or signal bars on handset. It could be SIM problem, phone problems or network problem.
ü  To resolve handset based signal loss, user can switch off and on to do network update.
ü  Manual network search also can help. To do manual network search, go through Menu to settings. To Phone setting, select network selection. Pick Manual and press ok when MTN Nigeria is displayed.
